I visited Jamaica about 3 years ago. I really like Jamaica. It has a lush green tropical landscape, excellent beaches and fantastic hotels. Just as important is that a holiday on Jamaica offers great value for money. When I visited Jamaica I was surprised how beautiful a place it is and also how safe the island is too.
Whilst many destinatons are suffering in the recession, Jamaica is bucking the trend, expecially as more flights are going into Montego Bay, which is closer to all the best hotels on the north coast of Jamaica. Also the pounds strength against the Caribbean dollar and discounting by hoteliers combine to make Jamaica ideal for those seeing winter sunshine.
In October 2009 British Airways re-introduced its Montego Bay route after a 7 year absence and BA now offers twice weekly flights from Gatwick, departing Thursday and Saturday. One luxury tour operator told us that flights into Montego Bay will mean shorter transfers to the their hotels, such as the upmarket Round Hill and Jamaica Inn as well as offering a premium cabin on the flight.
Jamaica Attractions
The beaches on Jamaica may well be a big draw but beyond the luxury hotels and sunloungers an ever increasing number of past times and attractions await you on Jamaica. The ever popular Dolphin Cove in Ocho Rios is opening a sister marine park in Lucea in May and this will benefit people who are staying in the holiday resort of Negril and Montego Bay who want to swim with dolphins, sharks or stingrays. There will also be a lazy river ride, ecological mangrove tour, crocodiles and camel rides !
Another attraction opened last November. Mystic Mountain has a cable car that takes you to the mountain top, where you can then glide back down by zip wire.In Negril, visitors can take the Raiders of Negril Cave Tour or go to the Rastafari Indigenous Village attraction, which is near Monego Bay, and where you can learn first hand about the Rastafarian way of life. A company called Island Routes Luxury Adventure Tours, which is part of the Sandals group, offers a selection of 80 hand picked excursions, from river tubing to a tour of the Appleton Rum Factory.
Hotels on Jamaica
Many hotels on Jamaica have spent money on improvements and new developments. In October 2009, Breees Rio Bueno Resort & Spa completed a $2 million refurbishment.
Also, the exclusive Goldeneye Resort near Ochio Rios, which was built in the grounds of James Bond author Ian Fleming’s former home, is adding 11 new beach cottages in 2010.Kingston recently opened its first boutique hotel.

Reggae Summer Festival in Jamaica
Reggae music suits perfectly the island of Jamaica. The music is laid back and cool. When I was in Jamaica all the locals love to dance and even the waitresses serving food and drinks in the evening were great movers ! Every year Jamaica holds Reggae Sumfest in July and it is one of Jamaica’s ultimate music events and is held in Montego Bay.
