Beat The Jobs Freeze In The Antarctic !

I didn’t apply for that job, advertised recently, on an uninhabited island off the coast of Queensland, Australia. I think they have had thousands of applicants and I certainly would have loved a spell on there. As long as I had my guitar and a supply of beer I would have been happy !

Hot on the heels of that exotic job comes another tempting opportunity, this time though in the frozen Antarctic. As long as you don’t mind cold weather the British Antarctic Survey is advertising for 40 carpenters, electricians, plumbers, chefs and technicians to work at their Antarctic research stations.

The starting salary is only £23,000 but you won’t have much to spend your money on as there are no shops there and in any event the temperature on a “warm” day hovers around the  -20C mark so that is far too cold to get your wallet out.

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) runs a recruitment drive every year and this year they say they are experiencing huge demand for jobs. It certainly sounds like an opportunity of a lifetime where you can work surrounded by stunning scenery, icebergs, penguins and whales.

Where is my warm coat and silly hat with the earmuffs ?
